The idea is exciting, getting to experience nightlife in another city, right? Like nightlife in Dubai, for example, oh, and it’s your birthday weekend? Well, that’s even better! And well, a big city birthday weekend sounds like it should be nonstop fun, right? Like, cute outfits, good food, a little nightlife, maybe a fancy moment, and everyone actually showing up on time for once. Like, the things you see in movies, that should happen to you in real life, right?
Well, sure, it can be great, but for some people, well, more often than not, it’s wasted on waiting, just lots and lots of lines. No, really, waiting to check in, waiting for a table, waiting in a line outside a club, waiting for rideshares, waiting for someone who “just needs five minutes.” It adds up fast, and it’s so annoying because nobody travels to stand around looking bored. So, not the best way to celebrate a birthday, right?
Pick One Area and Build the Weekend Around It
Okay, so the biggest time-waster in big cities is trying to bounce across town all weekend, because the city is huge, traffic is a thing, and the distance that looks small on a map can still ruin momentum. Now, it’s absolutely going to be in your best interest here to just go ahead and pick one neighbourhood as the “home base”, which makes everything easier. It’s also more fun because it keeps the group together, and it makes last-minute pivots possible without turning it into a group negotiation.
Book the Most Annoying Things in Advance
Well, the things that are actually going to cause an annoyance if they’re not done in advance, that’s what that means. Okay, two things eat up time in a birthday weekend more than anything else: dinner and nightlife entry. Why? Well, dinner because popular places are booked, and walking in with a group and hoping for the best is basically choosing stress. And again, it’s not like a line is a birthday experience; it’s just standing there pretending it’s fine. You don’t want that, no one actually wants that!
So booking at least one main dinner reservation is a must, and if there’s a club or lounge night planned, it helps to reserve something. Even a basic guest list, or a table situation, if the budget allows. Actually, some venues offer luxury seating, and while that’s definitely not required, it can be the difference between actually celebrating inside and spending half the night outside checking the time and getting annoyed.
Just Make the Daytime Plan Light
Well, if this is your birthday weekend, by all means, do what you want that makes you happy. But if you’re super hyped about the nightlife, dining, wining, theaters, shows, concerts, parties, well, you name it, and you’re hoping to basically stay up til sunrise, then you absolutely need to just consider doing lighter activities in the daytime.
Don’t jam-pack it with things to do. Instead, maybe consider going to a spa and relax there, get massages and facials, have a healthy lunch, maybe shop a bit, browse, go to a museum, but don’t overpack it, or else you’ll end up too exhausted.
